A Summer with Sarah is a series of journal entries from the summer Sarah turned 18.
June 11th, 1994 – Reflection
It’s June 11th, 1994, 10:15 PM. Now, I’m here in a nice hotel room. Everything is soft—the bed, the sheets—and the air conditioner is quiet. I just got out of a big bathtub and feel all clean and rested. I’m hoping that tonight I’ll have sweet dreams, not like last night in Buffalo.
Last night, I had my first nightmare. There were murderers. They killed my niece and my sister, and they shot my other sister in the arm. Later in the dream I ended up in a motel room trying to get them to repent and receive God’s forgiveness.
In nine days, I’ll be with Josh. On the phone Tuesday, we were already making plans for next summer. I’ll go to grad night with him and his graduation. He said that when he sees me with my dress and hair all done up, he won’t be able to stand up because I’ll be so beautiful.
He loves me so much. I love the way he loves me—it’s so pure, giving, and faithful. People aren’t supposed to love like this these days.
A Verse for Today’s World
Here’s a verse I was reading that really spoke to me, about what life is like these days:
“A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand, but it shall not come near you. Only with your eyes shall you look and see the reward of the wicked, because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your habitation.”
God’s Perfect Plan
Lord, I love the way You do Your will and confirm to us the way to go. From the way I see You working, I believe it’s Your wonderful plan for Josh to go to Embry-Riddle.
Last weekend, Josh and his dad went to Promise Keepers, and of all the 65,000 men there, the director of curriculum at Embry-Riddle sat right next to Josh’s dad.
Josh’s dad really wanted him to go to Purdue, but Josh wanted to go to Embry-Riddle. His parents thought he wanted to go just because it would put him 45 minutes away from my house. I think both reasons are relevant.
After they talked, Josh’s dad now likes Embry-Riddle even more than Purdue for him.
Thank you, Lord, for doing that. I can trust You, and I believe You will see to it that Your perfect will is done.
Please be glorified. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
